The Role of OSINT in a Safer Society

Open-source intelligence can help identify digital-risk indicators, but its value depends on disciplined sourcing, verification and careful separation of evidence from inference.

What OSINT can contribute

Publicly available information can reveal timelines, account relationships, repeated narratives and other observable patterns. These signals can help researchers understand where additional review may be justified.

Verification is essential

A public post is not automatically proof of the claim it contains. Researchers should preserve the source, record when it was observed, compare independent information where possible and clearly state uncertainty.

From information to useful analysis

Useful intelligence is structured and reproducible. A reviewer should be able to understand which sources support a conclusion, which points remain allegations and which observations are independently corroborated.
